Having a sore throat, runny nose and a headache could mean that it is COVID-19 infection, caution UK researchers.
The Zoe COVID study team has been involved in tracking the pandemic with the help of feedback obtained from the general population. The team estimates that half of people with cold-like symptoms have COVID-19. The team has described an exponential rise in COVID-19 cases over the past week, triggered by the Omicron variant. Around 144,000 people a day are catching it. For most of the patients, COVID is a mild disease, and some may not develop any symptoms at all.
However, it can lead to serious illness in some people, including the unvaccinated. Lead scientist Prof Tim Spector said that if someone has cold-like symptoms, they should take a COVID test… (BBC, December 23. 2021)
